A survey of attitudes towards hospitality education in the People's Republic of China

Abstract

There is no previous study concerned with the attitudes toward hospitality education in the People's Republic of China. Hospitality education program introduced to China could contributed to the rapid growth tourism in China since 1978. Hospitality education helps China to improve her service and quality and promote tourism industry. This survey investigated the attitudes of Chinese students, service personnel, and management personnel toward the hospitality education setup in China. The similarities and the differences of perception among the various groups were determined. The benefits and problems were also found in the survey. The analysis of data was based on frequency and Chi-Square methods. The results of the survey were: Chinese people do have positive attitudes toward hospitality education, it appears that most male and younger respondents were more aggressive than female and older respondents. The results could be given to Chinese universities and provide a way for the Chinese to set up proper hospitality education programs.
