Abstract
The major problem in plant layout is to determine the most economical relative location of facilities. A facility is a separate activity having work relationships with each of the other activities of the same layout. In an industrial concern, for example, a facility may consist of one machine tool, a group of machines which must operate as a unit, a department within a plant or the plant itself if a group of plants is being considered for a layout.
