Description
Falketind, a five-masted schooner, was the product of a wartime shipbuilding boom and was not unlike many others built around the same time. The stockless anchors, a concession to modernity, the foremast square yard, wheelhouse and raised poop were frequently found on ships from the west coast. Falketind was owned by a one-ship company and became somewhat celebrated in case law owing to a series of lawsuits and judgments about accounting practice in small firms. Much of this case law dates from 1927 and later, so Falketind survived at least that long. Interestingly, noted maritime historian John Lyman seems to have missed Falketind in his chronicles—there is very little documentation about the ship in published sources. A bow view of Falketind under sail is in the San Francisco Public Library photographic archive.
