Abstract
Today's cities are probably the most inhumane environment ever made by man for man. They afford more danger than safety, more ugliness than beauty, and more despair than hope. However, we cannot expect the mass of the people to accept any change in their present pattern of life until they realize and act upon the problem themse1ves. It is my intention to explode the problem to a 1arge enough scale that it is clearly visible and then to propose a solution. In this thesis I shall try to show the rise of the urban problem through the historical development of the city; examine~ the components of the problem; and final1v, propose a specific answer to the problem through my solution.
