Abstract
Aerosols in the atmosphere are ranging from nm to µm size, which can not only absorb and scatter sunlight, but also reduce visibility and cause health problems. In this dissertation research we present a comprehensive introduction of aerosol in order to thoroughly understand its properties. In addition, a molecular structure based model is developed to characterize organic aerosol. Furthermore, optical data of black carbon is presented in this dissertation to illustrate its light-absorbing properties.
