Abstract
This thesis examines the effects of land management practices on the Texas horned lizard (Phrynosoma cornutum) in central Texas. I begin with a literature review to describe the historical conditions, natural disturbance, and climate that occurred before and after European contact with the region. This gives us a greater understanding of appropriate habitat management and restoration goals. Chapter II discusses P. cornutum home range size relative to recent droughts, habitat treatments, and prescribed fire. Chapter III models factors that influence male and female P. cornutum survival, demonstrating that there are very different factors influencing male and female survival. Lastly, Chapter IV summarizes the preceding chapters and offers management suggestions based on current P. cornutum conservation efforts.
