Abstract
This thesis reports the results of the numerical simulation of the interaction between a pulsed relativistic electron beam and a multi-cell resonator structure with application to the analysis of a relativistic extended interaction klystron. Pulsed RF fields are produced of order IOMV/m at lOGHz. Excitation of then mode of the resonator is achieved with an efficiency of 55%. A discussion of the key parameters of the electron beam, resonator structure and modes of operation is given. The particle-in-cell code (PIC) MAGIC is utilized in the simulation. The MAGIC code was written by Mission Research Corporation and was sponsored by the Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR).
