Abstract

PEASSS is a 3-unit CubeSat (slated for launch in 2016) aiming to qualify and test in space “smart structures” including composite panels and piezoelectric materials, new piezo power generation system and fiber-optic sensor plus interrogator system, resulting in a considerable amount of new technology demonstration components. The broader goal of the thermal subsystem responsible is to develop a cost- and resource-efficient approach for the thermal design which can be applied also to small-budget missions like CubeSats and to reduce the risks of the mission related to the extensive use of COTS and not-qualified materials and components typical in CubeSats’ missions.
