Hazard mitigation through community design: A retirement community

Hazard mitigation, specifically that of high winds and tornadoes, should reduce the loss of human life and property through the principles described in Gandemer and Helary Moreau ' s research of tropical dwellings including exposure, construction shape, and reduction of roo f loads through pressure balance and ventilation. Likewise, communities should be protected through Mileti's principles of land-use and enhancement of the natural environment.
