Abstract

Description

Paper presents the findings of the Discovery Services Team and User Experience Task Force joint report on the resolution of a single discovery service for the TTU Libraries. Evaluative criteria and categories were identified for the two discovery products, EBSCO Discovery Service (EBSCO) and Primo OneSearch (Ex Libris): functionality, relevancy ranking and known-item searching, content (central index, databases, and metadata), interoperability with other systems, ODI conformance and statistics, customization and vendor support. The Team consulted vendor documentation, LIS literature, and solicited feedback from the Libraries faculty and staff to create a profile for each product. These profiles are intended to reveal areas of direct and indirect impact on the Libraries’ daily workflow and services. To capture the user perspective, the UX Task Force completed usability testing for each system using the Morae software. Undergraduate and graduate participants from multiple disciplines completed search tasks and answered reflective questions about their perceptions and experiences using each system.
