Hydrodynamic fluid structure interaction for wave carpet simulation and implementation

In this work, a new wave carpet model was developed and investigated. The mathematics model was formulated using basic principles from hydrodynamic theory for inviscid incompressible flow mechanics coupled with nonlinear Euler-Bernoulli beam theory for the wave carpet. The novelty of the work presented herein is the incorporation of the non-linear effects that was not available in earlier models. Also, this allowed us to include in the model the coupled effects of both axial and transverse wave-carpet motion. The computational results for the wave-carpet model developed in this work suggest the importance of incorporating nonlinear effects into the mathematical model. Performance of the model developed herein is compared to the performance of existing linear models.
