Abstract

Explains the effects that the United States Supreme Court cases Gannett Co. v. DePasquale and Richmond Newspapers, Inc. v. Virginia have had on the media’s access to judicial proceedings. There is an in-depth description of the development of the right of the public to access judicial proceedings and discussions on various approaches to facilitating access. The author believes future cases must carve out definitive standards for closure and that more clarification on this issue will be required by the Court.
