Abstract
Heteronormative forces prevail across all domains in the lives of humans. This is also true in the context of the elementary school. This is a qualitative case study focused on teacher perceptions and lived experiences related to heteronormativity in the elementary classroom. These teachers shared their lived experiences of growing up in heteronormative cultures and how these forces molded their own development as gendered/sexed and sexual beings. These teachers also shared how they perceive and subsequently work to counter these heteronormative forces in the context of the elementary school.
