The sensible choice: Family and consumer sciences in correctional education
Resumen
Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) is a field of study based in the human
sciences with a mission to improve the lives of individuals, families and communities
through training, education and advocacy. FCS is defined as “the comprehensive
body of knowledge that helps people make informed decisions about
their well being, relationships and resources to achieve optimal quality of life.” The
curriculum taught through FCS education closely aligns with the educational needs of
the incarcerated members of the American population.
