A study of chrysanthemum breeding in the Southwest
The chrysanthemum Is a favored garden plant all over the world. They are grown for pot plants, cut flowers and outdoor garden plants. They also hold the distinct position of being the number-one cut flower In the United States today. However most varieties now available have been developed elsewhere under climatic and growing conditions quite different from those of the Southwest region. At times serious limitations are found among many varieties when they are grown here. To seek more suitable and adapted varieties, a research project was contracted, some results of which are reported here.
