The development of an all ceramic solid oxide electrolysis stack is discussed and compared with conventional solid oxide electrolysis designs produced by Paragon. Lessons learned in the fabrication, assembly, and design of the all ceramic technology are discussed, including points of failure in material processing, seal assembly, and failures during operation that may be attributed to design. A path forward for an all-ceramic technology is discussed that incorporates the lessons learned at Paragon and results in a low-risk, scalable, and high reliability design.
