Abstract

Despite the many differences, some real and some fancied, between psychologists of various theoretical persuasions, there exists a general agreement that early experience profoundly influences subsequent adult behavior. Thus, as Hess (1959, p. 130) points out, "...the problem of the investigator is not so much to find out whether early experience determines adult behavior as to discover how it determine adult behavior.
