dc.description.abstractThe knowledge of the turbulent nature of wind is essential in structural engineering. As arandom processes, atmospheric turbulence can be described by a probability distribution. This study focuses on assessing the spectra of turbulence using data recorded in the field. The National Science Foundation has sponsored a comprehensive study of wind effects on low-rise buildings at the Texas Tech University Wind Engineering Research Field Laboratory. Wind pressure and meteorological data are collected on a test building and a 160-ft high meteorological tower, respectively. Meteorological data include wind speed, wind direction, temperature, barometric pressure, and relative humidity. A total of 40 records with 757 min were analyzed in this study. The data were separated into four groups, which are cold front events, dust storm events, high-wind events, and thunderstorm events. These groups were then studied in regards to spectra of atmospheric turbulence. Results of the analysis are presented in this report.
