Effects of 3D printing nano-aerosol emissions and microplastics on A549 epithelial lung cells

The 3D printer was initially developed in 1983 to allow engineers to prototype ideas before moving into the next stages of production. Today the 3D printing industry is a multi-million-dollar industry with marketing focused on small businesses, STEM education, and the public. Over the past thirty years, 3D printers have become highly affordable, and with continual growing popularity, are a common addition to libraries, classrooms, office spaces, and households. Recently, the scientific community has shifted its focus from the applications of 3D printing technology to nano-aerosol emissions produced during the printing process.
