Abstract

Description

Research has shown that the physical properties of window glass are affected by the random distribution of flaws on and within the window glass. Any attempt to determine the properties of window glass has meaning only in a statistical sense. Furthermore, the rate of loading as well as the duration of the loading, has a considerable effect on the strength of window glass. The strength related properties are also a function of the size, type, and thickness of the window glass. As a result of the inherent variability of the strength related properties of window glass with respect to so many different variables, it is difficult to provide a credible theoretical model which can be used to accurately predict the breakage characteristics of window glass. Therefore, if any valid information concerning the breakage characteristics of window glass is to be developed, such information must be obtained empirically for each particular size and type of window glass.
