Abstract

This article critiques the Texas Whistleblower Act, emphasizing the need for reform to enhance protections for whistleblowers. It analyzes the current limitations of the Act, particularly regarding the narrow definition of protected disclosures and the burdens placed on whistleblowers seeking legal recourse. Through a review of recent case law and comparative analysis with other states’ whistleblower protections, the paper highlights gaps that discourage reporting wrongdoing. Additionally, it proposes specific legislative changes aimed at fostering a safer environment for whistleblowers and promoting accountability in public institutions. Ultimately, the author advocates for a more robust framework to encourage transparency and protect those who expose misconduct in Texas.
