Description
Launched as Regina Elena, this well-known bark caught the eye of F. Laeisz of Hamburg who purchased the ship in 1911 and renamed it Ponape. In September of 1914 after the start of World War I, Ponape was seized by HMS Majestic and brought into Falmouth where the ship was acquired by the British Admiralty and manage by James Bell as Bellhouse. A year later Bellhouse was sold again to Norwegians and in 1925 the ship was sold to Finns and renamed Ponape again. Gustav Erikson purchased Ponape in 1929 and it is under the Eriksen flag that this photograph was taken. Ponape was broken up in Latvia in 1936.
