Abstract

Theory The use of architecture to expreee and encouraqe qrowth in a learning environment. Theory Paragraph Growth is a continuous process t h a t endures throughout our lifetime. It encompaeeee the idea learning. Growth expande our knowledge and understanding of the world around us. As children schools are used to teach us basic concepte of reasoning. For many children school is seen as something t h a t is forced upon them, and learninq seems somehow borira or tedious. It is my ccntenticf" that by creating a facility that sparks the imagination and relieves boredom that a child will be encouraged to grow. With the use of basic building blocks such as color, form, and texture I believe t h a t school can be a fun and enjoyable place to grow. Because growth is a continuous proce&e, i t demande that flexibility be a part of life as well. This aspect must also be incorporated into a school facility. The facility must recognize the changing needs of children and allow for multiple functions. The facility must also have the flexibility to adapt to scale. It must recognize t h a t children are not the sole users of the facility. Farente and teachers a'ike must feel ccrfcrtJbi.f in •^•n-? cHTc-i'-:- used to promote future expaneion of the facility. As the environment surrounding the school expande eo must the facility. Context &. Facility An elementary school is the facility chosen to express this theory. The school will be placed in Round Rock, Texas, a growing community j u s t north of the capital of Texas. Round Rock is regarded as a small town, and this idea will be expressed in the elementary school.
