Abstract

As the world and its problems continue to become more complex, traditions begin to slowly disappear. Men are no longer within easy reach of leisure and relaxation as they once were. Privacy is of the highest premium and can no longer be enjoyed by all; therefore, it has become a commodity that may be afforded by only a few. It is for this exclusive group that the subject of this thesis is intended. Yachting is a traditional sport evolving from one of man's oldest means of livelihood. As a sport, it is traditionally expensive and enjoyed mainly by the upper classes. Therefore, a private yacht club is one of the oldest forms of exclusive organizations. In delving into a_ subject such as yachting, a great source of tecl:mical kno~ledge, as, well ยท as experience in yachting and club planning is a must. I would like to thank Mr. R. H. Brogniez, one of my faculty advisers, for supplying me with this source through his personal experiences. With out his help, this subject would have been entirely too broad for an adequate understanding in the amount of time allowed.
