Abstract
A qualitative examination of the identity transformations of women who have been highly socialized into the role of the wife and who have experienced the loss of a spouse through divorce or death. The aim of this paper was to better understand the wife role exit for women born between 1920-1945. I looked at how various factors impacted the identity negotiation process and the eventual transition out of the role of the wife.
