Abstract

Ship Name: Star of Iceland ex Willscott; Sailed: 1896-1930; Type: Steel 3-masted bark; Built by: Glasgow, Scotland by Hamilton & Company; Dimensions: 267.3' x 40.1' x 22.7'; Tonnage: 2165 tons.

Description

I do not know much about this ship other than it had Hawaiian registry prior to being purchased by the Alaska Packers Association. On the last voyage to Japan to be scrapped, the Star of Iceland was overlong on the passage and has been variously reported as lost at sea—however, this was not the case. The Star of Iceland did have a tough time on the voyage—it lasted over four months—and when sighted by a Japanese steamer, the crew was down with scurvy and beriberi. The steamer towed the ship to Yokohama and Star of Iceland was scrapped in 1930.
