Abstract

Ship Name: Kentmere; Sailed: 1883-1906; Type: Iron 4-masted, later bark; Built by: Liverpool by W. H. Potter & Son; Dimensions: 300' x 42.2' x 24.7'; Tonnage: 2521 tons.

Description

With skysails over royals, Kentmere had a tall rig. Until 1904, Kentmere engaged in trading to India for Fisher & Sprott’s “mere” line of London. Close observation reveals that Kentmere has hoisted the F&S house flag at the main. F. E. Bliss of London purchased Kentmere in 1896, and when Anglo-American Oil Co., bought Kentmere in 1904, they unrigged the ship down to a bark. In 1906, under the ownership of Pacific Steam & Navigation Co., the ship became a hulk at Punta Arenas, Chile.
