The direction of Steve Tesich's "Division Street"

The goal of this thesis is to present a chronological record of my work as director of Division Street. The thesis is also to serve as partial fulfillment of my M.F.A. degree requirements. In this first chapter, I will discuss my approach to the work and why this play was chosen. The second chapter will contain information on past productions of Division Street, information on the playwright, Steve Tesich, and my analysis of the play. Chapter III will offer a chronological account of the casting and rehearsal process. Chapter IV will be a discussion of choices made for the production and the relative success or failure of those choices. Chapter IV will also discuss the seven performances of Texas Tech's production of Division Street. Chapter V will recap the previous chapters and discuss the whole process of directing a play as the culmination of my studies at Texas Tech University.
