The Right to Defend Pro Se

Critiques the defendant’s pro se right to represent himself in court. The author looks at the nature of the pro se right, the limits on the pro se right, the pro se right after the trial begins, the pro se right as a qualified right, and the pro se right as a discretionary right. The author concludes that the courts should recognize that they are endowed with sufficient discretion to disallow pro se arguments when such arguments appear to disrupt and make mockery of the court’s proceedings.
