Abstract

This casebook explores the principal federal protections against workplace discrimination. It focuses primarily on four statutes: Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and 42 U.S.C. § 1981. This book also provides an overview of many other federal statutes relating to employment discrimination. Throughout this book, readers will learn about the kinds of discrimination prohibited under federal law, the ways courts analyze discrimination claims, the procedures for resolving disputes, and the remedies available upon resolution. Also included in this book are exercises that ask readers to apply discrimination doctrine as well as consider the theoretical, practical, and ethical issues that affect employment discrimination claims.
