Abstract
Ship Name:Valkyrie; Sailed: 1892-1901; Type: Iron 3-masted; Built by: Greenock by Charles Connell for J. D. Clink; Dimensions: 283.3' x 42.5' x 24.5'; Tonnage: 2270 tons.
Description
Charles Connell built a lot of ships and he built good-looking ships; at least, that is my prejudice.
Even though a big baldheader, Valkrie looks good with a raised forecastle and raised poop— neither too long, either. At nearly 2300 tons, Valkrie is a big full-rigger and the ship was built with halyard winches. Valkrie traded to Calcutta and San Diego, and Lubbock mentions the big ship losing a race with A. G. Ropes around Cape Horn.
