dc.description.abstractPostsecondary transition is a process implemented for all students in special education in order to provide a seamless passage into the real world. Students with low-incidence disabilities and their families may experience greater obstacles to address the intense needs that impact daily living and future planning. This research study pursued parental perceptions on the postsecondary transition planning process. Qualitative methodology was chosen to examine parental perceptions concerning this process. Through a purposive sample, five participants completed a transition rating scale, a semi-structured interview, and allowed the researcher access to their child’s Individualized Transition Plan (ITP) for document review. Findings from the research indicated that schools are in compliance with regard to IDEA 2004. However, the data indicated gaps in parental knowledge concerning the postsecondary transition planning process. Consequently, parents’ perceptions demonstrated their lack of confidence in the postsecondary transition planning process to provide a positive student outcome for their child.
