Abstract
By emphasizing the tactile qualities in architecture, one can perceive space through not only sight, but also through sound, touch, and smell. By considering acoustics, illumination, ambient sensations, tension between interior and exterior, intimacy, color, and texture, architecture can become a sensuous environment for the purpose of improving the healing environment for patients and quality of professional care in a rural healthcare facility. Local culture, climate, and materials will also influence the creation of space.
