Abstract
Advocates for Texas’ implementation of mathematical formulae and guidelines for calculating child support awards. The article discusses current inadequacies and non-compliance with child support orders and other states’ adoption of similar guidelines to insure children are adequately cared for by their custodial parent. Concludes that child support awards should consider the value of the custodial parent’s amount of time spent caring for children rather than pursuing economically rewarding activities, and provisions should be implemented that provide for automatic increases in child support when the non-custodial parent’s income increases.
