Abstract

Ship Name: Samoena; Sailed: 1892-1919; Type: Iron 3-masted; Built by: Glasgow, by Charles Connell for J. D. Clink; Dimensions: 272' x 40' x 23.6'; Tonnage: 1962 tons.

Description

Samoena, another of Connell’s ships, took to the sea under Captain J. L Boyce who had the ship until it was sold again to Lang and Fulton in 1907. From 1907 until sold Finnish in 1910, Captain J. Thompson commanded this bald-headed full-rigger. Never a fast ship, Samoena managed to be a sturdy if plodding freighter. On a passage from New York to Rotterdam, Samoena wrecked in Holland, 1919.
