Abstract

The Yeso Formation of central and northern New Mexico was studied and sampled. The carbonate, gypsum and clastic content was determined and the size, heavy minerals, and frosting of the elastics was analyzed

The Yeso overlies continental deposits and is overlaid by marine deposits. This position in addition to the presence of wave-formed ripple-marks, salt-crystal casts and thick evaporites Indicate that the formation is transitional. The interfingering with overlying and underlying formations, environment, and transgressive character of the Yeso indicates that it is time transgressive.
