The Sea Gun Sports Inn was once a well-known getaway for enthusiasts of the Texas coast. Then in a matter of a few years it became what it is now, a forgotten , ghostly set of buildings surrounding a quiet, almost completely vacant harbor. Through Critical Regionalism the Sea Gun will be transformed into a premiere resort for the next century. By using Critical Regionalism one is afforded the freedom of design with FlgurelĀ·4 innovation, while capturing a piece of the surrounding environment and context. "While The hotel os It e w r ma bused os a short stay ho el (1 2 n opposed to the sentimental simulation of local vernacular, Critical Regionalism will. on sportsmen whom a e In own lor w nd hun n 01 fishing and preler econom c lodgln occasion, insert reinterpreted vernacular elements as disjunctive episodes within the whole." 1 While creating something entirely new, the design will still associate itself in the environmental and contextual realm in which it exists. "In other words it will endeavor to cultivate a contemporary place-oriented culture without becoming unduly hermetic, either at the level of formal reference or at the level of technology." 2 The location of the project is Rockport, Texas. This small town hosts thousands of fishermen, bird watchers, Winter Texans, and tourists all year round. The sleepy, historic Rockport is one of Texas' hotspots for tourism . Thus creating a fertile context for a new High-end resort, with the spirit of the local atmosphere.
