dc.description.abstract | Nearing the completion of a PhD in Fine Arts from Texas Tech University, I approached the CEO of the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra in the hopes of completing an internship. This internship, taking place from February to August of 2012, gave me real world experience in the world of orchestral arts administration. Over the course of the internship I was involved in three major areas. As an Education Department intern I worked on several projects such as analyzing audience feedback from the LSO’s Education Concerts, assisting with the managing of the woodwind Chamber Ensemble and helping to identify potential recipients for the program, and observing and recording several participants in the orchestra’s Teaching Artist program. In addition to these duties I also helped organize and implement the LSO’s advertising campaign which would determine their advertisers for the 2012-2013 concert season. My long-term project involved creating a large scale audience survey that would gather input from LSO concert attendees with different buying habits. This included current subscribers to their Chamber Music Series and Masterwork Series; former subscribers going back to 2008-2009; attendees who purchase single tickets rather than subscriptions; and a control group derived from the general population at Texas Tech University. This report discusses the above mentioned experiences, highlights lessons learned from the experiences, provides insight on the results from the survey, and offers suggestions or improvements that might make the projects run more smoothly in the future. | |
