Abstract

Given the body derives its knowledge of itself from its external objects in the world, and that the omnipresent condition of corporeality is 'progressively distancing' itself from architecture, then the use of a stair and a drawing will function intimately and reciprocally as a figural and spatial projection of the human body. The stair, an archetypal creation of our external world, coupled with the representational, narrative power of the drawing can be applied as an instrumental text, within an architectural installation. This two-part apparatus will provide for a sensual, tactile engagement with man to help demonstrate this bodily crisis. Injected into the main-stream of an artistic, culturally embedded environment, this elixir vitae will illustrate the power of human embodiment.
