Abstract

This comprehensive dissertation comprises three interconnected studies, each shedding light on different facets of retirement disparities, the perceptions of retirement savings adequacy, and the influence of financial planning and knowledge. The first study examines retirement disparities and explores the factors that can mitigate them. The second study delves into the intricate relationship between varying degrees of retirement savings disparities and how individuals perceive the adequacy of their savings. The third study delves into the levels of concern among individuals actively engaged in retirement planning, considering the ownership of retirement accounts. Together, these studies offer a comprehensive perspective on retirement planning, disparities, and individual perceptions. They showcase the roles of financial planners, financial literacy, risk tolerance, and different types of retirement accounts in shaping retirement security and providing peace of mind.
