Abstract

Genesis is a work for symphony orchestra and narrator/baritone voice. It is set to music based on the Biblical text found in Genesis chapter 1 of the Bible. It is a throughcomposed work in one movement based on the nature of the Biblical text. Musical figures and motives are employed to express the events of the creation story as it is being narrated and sung. The work starts mainly with a percussive concentration in the beginning and progresses to addition of other instruments as the days of the creation story unfold. The work climaxes with the full orchestra taking part in an ‘Alleluia’ praise with text by the composer.
