Fox News played a primary role in the image construction of President Donald Trump. By framing narratives in primetime opinion segments that manipulated information, the network created propaganda to support the president. Three appeals were commonly used by the network to maintain support of the Trump Administration: appeal to authority, appeal to faith, and the management of stigma each served to promote loyalty to the network. Using the theory of symbolic interactionism and intellectual descendants of the theory, Burke, Goffman, and Butler, the network’s influence on its viewers and the mainstream media is analyzed using segments produced by Fox News and the subsequent reaction and framing constructed by the mainstream press.
