dc.description.abstract"A structure that does not follow the simplest and most efficient schemes or a construction detail that does not consider the specific characteristics of the material with which it is built will only with great difficulty achieve good aesthetic expression" (Nervi ii). Since buildings are constructed of chosen materials the form should be one that is true to the material thus, the focus of this thesis. With over one million materials available to architects today masonry has been chosen as the material for expression. The vehicle for this thesis is a child development center for the employees of Texas Instrument of Lubbock, Texas. The facility shall serve the employees of Texas Instruments located at the intersection of North Loop 289 and University Avenue. The facility shall provide care for 100 children ranging from birth to 5yrs of age. The facility shall comprise of 6,527 square feet of indoor space and 13,880 square feet of outdoor space for a total of 20,407 square feet (Approx.) The facility shall serve all employees t Abstract and shall be in operation for the hours of 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. The facility shall provide such amenities as early education, an infirmary for ill children, space for nursing mothers and areas for physical activities.
