Abstract

Two microprocessor-based compact drives for three-phase induction motors were built and tested. Real time pulse width modulated waveforms were generated to drive the inverters using a microprocessor and a PWM modulator chip. This dissertation discusses the design, implementation, and testing of the drives and gives experimental results. Dynamic modeling of a vector controlled drive was also undertaken. The performance analysis of the complete closed loop system incorporating the vector controlled drive and the three-phase induction motor was carried out using Microsims' Design Center Version 6.0. The results of the simulation are also presented.
