dc.description.abstractThis qualitative collective case study sought to explore the experiences and perceptions of community college students enrolled in developmental education of counseling and advising services designed to support student success. Research has estimated that about 60% of all students entering community colleges will need to take at least one developmental education course. Support services such as counseling and advising is available to contribute to the overall success of students. Counseling and advising services support students by providing guidance that relates to academic, career, and educational goals. It is important explore the experiences and perceptions of community college students enrolled in developmental education of counseling and advising services designed to support student success in order to understand the students perspective, which is not documented often enough. Counseling and advising services can assist students in developmental education with the goal of college completion. This collective case study was conducted at a very large, urban-serving, multi-campus community college in the Central Texas region. Participants in this study included students who were enrolled in six or more credits, enrolled in two or more developmental education courses, and had utilized counseling and advising services. The findings of this study will add to the literature that exists regarding counseling and advising services designed to support student success for students enrolled in developmental education courses.
