Abstract

This is an action research project designed to implement functional grammar in my fourth grade classroom. This study focused on using research based strategies to show how language functions within the text. Research studies have shown that the traditional method of teaching grammar does not show any positive benefit in students’ written work. The results of this study demonstrated that this approach has a positive effect on students’ writing development. Genre-based approach to writing has strong potential for improving student knowledge about genres.
