Abstract

In order to study how crowding affects the behavior of mentally retarded individuals, one must first consider crowding and human behavior in general. Zlutnick and Altman (1972) have listed three major sources of information pertaining to the effect of crowding on human behavior: (1) correlational studies in natural settings primarily utilizing census tract data; (2) contemporary speculations and guesses; and (3) manipulative, laboratory research involving some form of control.
