Thesis Statement: It is essential to utilize new design ideas and materials to produce a structure that is conscious of its resources in production as well as resource-efficient to operate. A facility that incorporates these aspects of sustainability and expresses them through its architectural design can become an instrument of subconscious and conscious leaming while generating a productive leaming environment. Scope: This facility will utilize the aspects of sustainability within Hanover's Elements of Fire, Air, Water, Earth, and Spirit (McDonough, 7). By capturing the essence of each element, it is possible to create a facility that is not only a leaming environment and environmentally friendly, it is a place of discovery in the community. These aspects of sustainability can be experienced by the direct users of the facility as well as patrons of the community by drawmg direct and indirect correlations between the facility and the environment. w^ U Facilitv Tvpe: S The facility is an advanced leaming center for secondary education emphasizing the areas of math and science. As r|* population increases and the need for schools escalate, so does the areas of specialized education. This facility is JW for those students who excel beyond the capabiiities of the general core requh-ement in our schools. The advanced ffl learaing center wiU provide a college style approach to classroom instmction .
