Abstract

Hazing rituals often include various forms of abuse and the forced consumption of large amounts of alcohol. More students attend college with mental health disorders and use prescription or illicit drugs; these students may react differently to hazing rituals and constitute a hidden harm of hazing. This article addresses hazing and its associated harms, the potential liability associated with hazing, and ways college leaders can address campus hazing.
