Abstract

The compound l(THF)Cl2GaRu(CO)4]2 (THF=tetrahydrofuran) has been synthesized by the reaction of Ga2Cl4 with Ru3(CO)i2. A single-crystal X-ray structure determination shows a galliumruthenium metal-metal bond of 2.453(1) A and an eclipsed geometry of the equatorial carbonyls. This is the first compound containing a gaUium-ruthenium bond characterized by X-ray diffraction.

In the course of studying the reactivity of [Mn][Mn7(THF)6(CO)i2]2 several new complexes have been synthesized. The compound (MnTHF)4(//-Cl)]2[{^-GaCl2}2Mn2(CO)8] has been synthesized by the reaction of GaCls with [Mnl[Mn7(THF)6(CO)i2]2- A single crystal X-ray structure shows the anion resides upon a crystallographic center of symmetry, which requires the Ga2Mn2 ring to be planar. This Ga2Mn2 metal framework of the anion to possesses a manganese-manganese metalmetal bond of 3.025(3) A and rather short gallium-manganese bond distances of 2.415(2) and 2.444(2) A.

The paramagnetic mixed-metal transition metal cluster {^i-Mn(THF)2]2Fe2(CO)8 has been synthesized by the reaction of Fe(CO)5 with [Mn][Mn7(THF)6(CO)i2]2- A single crystal X-ray structure shows the cluster resides upon a crystEillographic center of sjrmmetry, which requires the Fe2Mn2 ring to be planar. The cluster possesses a manganese-manganese metal-metal bond of 2.895(2) A and short iron-manganese bond distances of 2.633(1) and 2.601(1) A. This compound is paramagnetic with BM= 5.0(1) which corresponds to 4 unpaired electrons per molecule.
